We’ve been waiting for the first testing to get a glimpse of how the Scirocco could look in the tuning scene.
It will have a ton to live up to seeing last years GTI crushed the field and its overall position.
The racing version of the new Volkswagen Scirocco has successfully taken its first hurdle. Hans-Joachim Stuck (A), Dieter Depping (D), Francois Verbist (B) and Thomas Mutsch (D) completed a comprehensive endurance test with the 300-hp Scirocco at the Motorsport Arena at Oschersleben.
The tests with the coupé that will be delivered to dealerships as a production model in autumn of 2008 served to prepare for the 24-Hour Race at the Nürburgring (23 -25 May), which Volkswagen will contest with three Scirocco cars. The Racing Scirocco’s roll-out had taken place at the Spreewaldring near Cottbus on 14 April.

Click image to view galleryThe new Passat R36, available in either saloon or estate bodystyles, is equipped with a naturally-aspirated 3.6-litre V6 engine developing 300 PS and 258 lbs ft of torque. Drive is channelled via a six-speed DSG gearbox through a 4MOTION all-wheel drive system capable of diverting torque to either axle depending on the grip available. As a result the saloon is capable of accelerating from rest to 62 mph in 5.6 seconds while the estate takes 5.8 seconds. Both models have limiters in place to restrict the top speed to 155 mph.

Wow. This will be a killer on the street as well as the showroom floor.
It is not only the 200 kW (272 hp) of output that makes the TFSI so scintillating, there’s its hefty pulling power too – the maximum torque of 350 Nm (258.15 lb-ft) is constantly on tap from 2,500 up to 5,000 rpm.

Its two-liter TFSI engine develops an awesome 200 kW (272 hp) that catapults the Coupe with S tronic dual-clutch transmission from 0 to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) in just 5.2 seconds and on up to a governed top speed of 250 km/h (155.34 mph).
