GEMBALLA Porsche Cayman GT / GT 4.0l RS

We aren’t always excited to see a Gemballa modified Porsche but we are always excited to hear what is under the cosmetics. However, with the two new versions of the Cayman, we eat our words. Both of these, the GT and the GT 4.01 RS are tastefully done. Gemballa did not go overboard with these two.

The GT is more of a cosmetic upgrade, whereas the GT 4.0L RS has some fun added in the engine! We will take one GT 4.0L RS in white please!

Just last month Gemballa dropped the 850hp GTR 800 EVO-R modified Porsche 911 Turbo on the world and since it would be nearly impossible to top that, Gemballa has made February Cayman S month, with the Gemballa GT and GT 4.0L RS packages offering enhanced performance and more aggressive looks to Porsche’s baby coupe.

The Gemballa GT is the tamer of the two conversions, although it packs a visual punch. A new front lip spoiler and hood with an integral scoop add impact to the front, while the sides and rear also get new treatments. A rear spoiler adds downforce while not going over-the-top. Twenty-inch racing wheels, a sport exhaust system and an adjustable sport suspension add performance to the already highly capable Cayman S platform. Inside, a two-tone interior, racing shifter and Alcantara accents round out the package.

Gemballa’s GT 4.0L RS takes things a step further with front and rear lip spoilers, an exterior carbon fibre package, a racing brake system two-tone interior, alloy pedals, special carpet and additional Alcantara leather in the cockpit. But the real highlight of the GT 4.0L RS spec sheet is the stroked 4.0L RS engine kit. Up six-tenths of a liter over the stock 3.4L Cayman S motor, extra power and torque will kick performance up to near Carrera S levels, although Gemballa hasn’t released exactly how much power is added with the kit.

Porsche works drivers at fitness camp

Fitness for success on the race circuit

Porsche’s works drivers enter the final sprint in preparation for the season. At a ten day intensive fitness camp on Fuerteventura, Timo Bernhard (26), Romain Dumas (30), Sascha Maassen (38), Patrick Long (26), Joerg Bergmeister (32), Wolf Henzler (32), Patrick Pilet (26), Marc Lieb (27), Richard Lietz (24), Richard Westbrook (32) and Emmanuel Collard (36) have worked hard on their power and endurance. Porsche-UPS junior Martin Ragginger (19) also took part in the Porsche Fitness Camp under the direction of sport medicine specialist Prof. Dr. Frank Mayer from the Potsdam University.

Fitness for success on the race circuit

The twelve Porsche pilots trained seven hours a day in a fitness studio and outside. In addition to power and endurance training the fitness schedule also included various exercises to improve their speed, flexibility and coordination. “The drivers have stuck to the individual training schedules that I put together for them in December 2007. They turned up here at our fitness camp well prepared. Even the newer Porsche works pilots were at an excellent fitness level,” said Prof. Dr. Mayer about his protégés. “For this reason we were able to again increase the intensity of the programme compared to last year,” added the sport medicine specialist.

“The combination of power training, various forms of endurance training and team building exercises has given my fitness level a noticeable boost,” says Timo Bernhard (Germany), the reigning champion of the American Le Mans Series (ALMS). “At the same time the first race in Sebring is the most physically demanding of the season. The fast corners put a huge strain on the neck and the bumps put an extra stress on the head and back,” adds his team mate Romain Dumas (France).

American Patrick Long, who contests his first full ALMS season in the Porsche RS Spyder this year, also feels optimally prepared. “Even now I notice a big improvement in my fitness. Apart from that I’ve got a lot of ideas for my personal fitness schedule during the coming season.” Long’s team mate Sascha Maassen (Germany) underlines another positive aspect of their training. “The new works drivers Richard Westbrook, Wolf Henzler and Patrick Pilet have integrated well into our squad. The many team-building games we’ve played have helped tremendously with this.”

First Spy Shots: Audi A9 in the wild

Not really. This is blasphemy! Audi should sue this guy! Is there even an Audi underneath all that junk? This is so bad we had to blur the photo so we don’t get sued for eye injuries… If you need to see it, click the image to on over to the gallery. We warned you! oh and we promise not to post stuff like this anymore.

First Spy Shots: Audi A9 in the wild

We wonder what was going in the mind of this guy when he decided to tune his Audi A6 and give it his own personal touch. The genetically mutated Audi contains a hodgepodge of elements ranging from the headlights of an Alfa and the minuscule hood scoop to the randomly placed exhaust pipes. As if the horrendous aesthetic changes weren’t enough of a crime, the owner decided to rename his visual atrocity to the Audi A9 Quattro. He might as well left the 6 with the 9 cause that’s exactly what he did to the A6…

VW denies chairman wants to oust Porsche CEO

As the World Turns… let’s just makes sure this doesn’t effect das auto, please!

VW denies chairman wants to oust Porsche CEO Volkswagen denied on Sunday that the chairman of its supervisory board, Ferdinand Piech, wanted to oust Wendelin Wiedeking as CEO of sports carmaker Porsche, VW’s biggest shareholder.

Piech is a grandson of Porsche’s founder, whose descendants still control the car company. Porsche holds about 31 percent of voting rights at Volkswagen, Europe’s biggest carmaker.

German news magazine Der Spiegel reported that Piech — a dominant figure in the German auto industry for decades — believes that Wiedeking has become too powerful and autonomous.

Der Spiegel said that Piech still clung to the ambition of hiring Wolfgang Reitzle, who is currently CEO of German industrial gases producer Linde but formerly held senior positions at BMW and Ford.

“The report about a supposed contact between Dr Piech and Mr. Reitzle with regard to the replacement of Dr Wiedeking is nonsense and lacks any foundation,” a Volkswagen spokesman said.

“Dr Piech has had no contact with Mr. Reitzle for years, and has none currently.”

Arguments about joint workers’ representation have soured relations between Volkswagen and Porsche recently, but the spokesman said Piech was confident this could be resolved.

“Dr Piech is of the firm conviction that the disputed points between the works councils of Volkswagen and Porsche can be swiftly settled without the intervention of the Piech/Porsche family,” the spokesman said.

Porsche Cayenne recall: Fuel line rearranged

For all you Porsche Cayenne owners, call your dealer.

Porsche AG is rearranging the fuel line in the engine compartment of 18,856 vehicles of the Cayenne model worldwide. This affects vehicles which were produced between November 30, 2006 and January 18, 2008.

There is the possibility with these vehicles that the slight movements of the engine when traveling could cause a fuel line to come in contact with the engine compartment cladding. This could cause a knocking sound and abrasion markings could occur on the fuel line itself. Up to now, there have been five known complaints worldwide, but only one instance in which any abrasion markings appeared on the fuel line. In order to avoid any further problems, Porsche is going to change the layout of the fuel line in the vehicles concerned.

Time in the workshop is about 40 minutes. For the customers, who will be advised of this shortly, the procedure is free of charge.
