The new Audi RS 6 Avant
Outstanding performance and the ultimate in dynamics – the new Audi RS 6 Avant is the high-performance product in business-class motoring. It brings Audi’s winning motor sport technologies to the road. A newly developed V10 biturbo gasoline engine with FSI direct injection plus quattro permanent all-wheel drive puts the new RS 6 Avant out in front of the competition. Its 426 kW (580 bhp) and torque of 650 Nm create an unparalleled experience of power and dynamism. And yet the Audi RS 6 Avant also offers uncompromising comfort and benefits for everyday driving.
The biturbo V10 accelerates the Audi RS 6 Avant at super sports car speed, catapulting it from zero to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds and then on to an electronically governed top speed of 250 km/h, which can optionally be increased to 280 km/h. The six-speed tiptronic numbers among a new generation of highly responsive automatic transmissions. Designed for active driving, it transfers the huge engine torques to a quattro driveline, which affords extremely dynamic roadability with its slight rear-axle bias.

DSG – the intelligent automatic gearbox from Volkswagen
- World’s first 7-speed DSG for high-volume production – starting in the Golf
- Significantly improved fuel economy and lower emissions thanks to DSG
- From Polo to Passat – new DSG for all TDI and TSI engines up to 250 Nm
Five years ago Volkswagen presented the first production dual-clutch transmission in the world: the 6-speed DSG. An intelligent automatic, a transmission of superlatives. The winning move of dual clutch transmissions had begun at Volkswagen. Since then over one million 6-speed DSGs have been sold! In just the first eleven months of last year 364,000 were sold. This is now being followed up by another transmission sensation: the world’s first 7-speed DSG to be produced in high-volume. For many car drivers this could signify the final turn away from conventional transmissions. Because the new DSG can do everything better than a manual gearbox. It is more fuel efficient, sporty and comfortable.
Hopefully this will put some of the naysayers to sleep! Obviously this is not American based but it looks like VW is back on track.
Volkswagen stands for the highest standard in manufacturing quality – a fact illustrated by the most recent surveys conducted by leading testers. This year’s DEKRA Mängelreport and AutoBild/TÜV Report both found the Volkswagen Golf to be exceptionally reliable. The Touran also received shining marks in the 2008 DEKRA Mängelreport.
The latest Golf came out the winner in the 2008 DEKRA Mängelreport’s survey of the compact class with a mileage of between 60,000 and 90,000 kilometres. The Touran achieves similar success in the report. Not only did it attain the highest ranking in this mileage class among vans, but it also came out tops among vehicles with 30,000 to 60,000 kilometres on the clock. These rankings serve to underscore the consistent high standard in quality of these popular models made in Wolfsburg, given that the 2008 DEKRA Mängelreport bases its findings on research done on some 15 million vehicles over a period of two years. The most important new aspect of the survey was the evaluation of deficiencies by mileage classes. DEKRA says this classification is a far more accurate indicator of the technical condition of a vehicle than vehicle age alone.
The Golf also clinched a very positive third ranking in the 2008 AutoBild TÜV Report’s survey of automobiles aged two to three years. Only 2.2 per cent of all the Golfs examined in this age class revealed any deficiencies – a result which is well above average (4.8 per cent). This, Germany’s biggest used-car report, based its findings on around seven million general inspections of 194 different models in total.
