Nicolas Prost tests Audi A4 at Almeria

A long list of drivers was all over internet after the mysterious test of Audi at the circuit of Almeria in Spain. 17 names from various racing series drove at the Audi test. But TouringCarTimes has received the name of a 18th driver that was driving a Audi A4 DTM. It’s the Frenchman Nicolas Prost, son of former Formula 1 driver Alain Prost. Nicolas Prost, born on August 18th, 1981, has been driving in Spanish Formula 3 in 2007, where he finished 3rd in the championship.

Apart from Prost, there had been four women testing, who are batling to take of the seat of Vanina Ickx. These women are Emma Kimiläinen, Rahel Frey, Nataca Gachnang and Steffi Halm.

Earlier we also reported that Christijan Albers would be testing. According to the info we have received he won’t get a works seat with Audi. That means that he only has a chance to get a seat with Futurecom TME, the team of Colin Kolles, who had fired Albers at Spyker F1 this year.

These are the other names of the drivers at Almeria: Filipe Albuquerque, Marco Bonanomi, André Lotterer, Johannes Stuck, Adrian Valles, Markus Winkelhock, Alvaro Barba, Oliver Jarvis, Stephen Jelley, Miguel Molina, Jan Seyffarth and Dirk Werner. Most of the drivers drove with Audi A4 DTM from 2006 which was run by Futurecom TME.

Markus Winkelhock seems to have the biggest chances of getting a 2007 Audi. André Lotterer has been very impressing during the test, according to our information. Lotterer has been succesfull in Japan, and is now considering returning to Europe with his Japanese wife. The question is however if he wants to return to Europe and drive in DTM when there is only a 2006 seat left.

DTM: Ekstrom wants Audi to step up race pace

Mattias Ekstrom believes that Audi have room to improve with their race performances in 2008.

The Swedish driver won his second DTM title in 2007, but he feels that as a team Audi were stronger in qualifying than they were in the races.

‘We had a great year, and it was nice to get the title back from Mercedes,’ Ekstrom told autosport.com. ‘But it wasn’t an easier year than any others.

‘We were definitely very strong with our qualifying pace in the second half of the season, but we didn’t always match that pace in the races.

‘That’s not a big problem, though, because you always have room to improve, and it means that we won’t relax over the winter.’

Audi took five pole positions from the final five races in 2007, but an Audi driver only went on to win in two of those races.

At Mugello and Zandvoort, they locked out the top five places on the grid, while they took the top three places at the Nurburgring and Hockenheim.”
