2007 Nardo High-speed event

We missed this one which happened last week. While everyone has been focused on the Audi MTM Bimoto crankin out 390.6km/h, we are more impressed with a Golf being in the top 10 amongst the likes of Techart, 9ff, Sportec, Barabus, Lamborgini and more.

hgp_r36_nardo_1.jpg

The one thing we love about this Golf is how stealth it is. Minus the hood vents and stickers, it looks stock. Even the O.Z rims are rather stock looking or someone threw on a set for their only mod.

It is running a 3.6l V6 biturbo Touareg engine, keeps the DSG which has been modified to handle up to 825 Nm (ha all you DSG haters) and runs everyday tires and fuel.

This all at 600HP!!! no word on torque.

Set a new world record in the street legal hatchback class with 204mph! For comparison, the MTM Bimoto did 242mph!

DTM on SpeedTV!

I was very disappointed to see that Speed has pulled German Touring Car, BTCC and WTCC off the Program Schedule list. We checked the forums and other avenues but no luck. Since [insert racing series name here] has taken over all of SpeedTV, we figured all non domestic racing was going to be on in the early hours or not at all.

Do we have good news for you! The schedule is up and it starts this weekend. Set your TiVo’s, cancel your torrent downloads, grab your Audi shirt and get ready!

We set up a new calendar on markthisdate. It provides numerous calendar options from iCal, Google, Palm, Outlook and a ton more. You shouldn’t have a problem adding to your calendar of choice.

Boxster RS 60 Spyder in Limited Edition

Tribute to a Porsche Classic

Very nice looking ride here. Love the tribute aspect and 303bhp is not to bad either.

Stuttgart. Dr. Ing. h. c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, is presenting a new version of the mid-engine Boxster sports car at the Bologna Motor Show in early December. In its colour, design, features and philosophy, the Boxster RS 60 Spyder brings back Porsche’s motorsport era of the ‘60s: After countless class wins, the Porsche Type 718 RS 60 Spyder was able to take on and beat its competitors also in the larger engine categories, scoring its first overall victory in 1960 in one of the most prestigious long-distance races for the Manufacturers’ World Championship in the important US market, Hans Herrmann/Olivier Gendebien winning the 12 Hours of Sebring in Florida.

Refined Volkswagen Race Touareg is ready for “Dakar”

vw_race_touareg.jpg

Wolfsburg (27 November 2007). 15 days through the desert, on hard tracks and through soft sand, temperatures between freezing and over 40 degrees centigrade: The Dakar Rallye that will start in Lisbon on 5 January and will end in Senegal on 20 January, after 15 legs covering a total distance of 9,273 kilometres, is one of the toughest tests in motorsport. Not only for the four Volkswagen factory driver/co-driver pairings, Carlos Sainz/Michel Périn (Spain/France), Giniel de Villiers/Dirk von Zitzewitz (South Africa/Germany), Mark Miller/Ralph Pitchford (USA/South Africa) as well as Dieter Depping/Timo Gottschalk (Germany/Germany), but, above all, for their competition vehicle, the Volkswagen Race Touareg 2. To meet the rally’s tough demands, the Volkswagen factory team has subjected the 280-hp TDI diesel prototype that won the Cross-Country Rally World Cup in November with Carlos Sainz and Michel Périn to further optimisations in an intensive development and testing programme as well as having adapted the prototype to the changes in the “Dakar” regulations.

Porsche 911 GT3 against Mercedes CLK 63 AMG Black Series

Christian, over at GCB, found this great matchup. I used to run the creative for Mercedes-AMG and there was some good trash talkin on the floor. The DTM (Audi vs. AMG) was one of many.

This is just great though. I love the GT3 and will probably live as a GT3 owner via these types of reviews. ;)

Just make mine white next time. BTW, I still need to post my pic of the Roock RST650

Kelley Blue Book - 2008 Best Resale Value Awards

WOW! Very good news for Volkswagen and their owners.

The Kelly Blue Book 2008 Best Resale Value Awards were announced and Volkswagen has 3 vehicles in the Top 10 and took best Brand. Only Honda had more vehicles so it sounds like VW’s reputation/loyalty is growing.

The Kelley Blue Book Best Resale Value Awards recognize automakers’ outstanding achievements in producing vehicles that best retain their value. Awards are presented to top vehicles within Kelley Blue Book’s 11 vehicle categories, for Overall Top 10 vehicles across all categories and the brand with the best projected resale value across its entire line of vehicles.

Best Brand: Volkswagen
Behind a badge that invokes an unlikely mix of German engineering and American individualism, today’s Volkswagen continues to compete in the U.S. automotive marketplace by taking a more scenic, more interesting side road than run-of-the-mill vehicles. Offering by far the most affordable model lineup in which one can experience the qualities and subtleties that commonly define and unify German vehicles, VW lives by drivers’ appreciation for such distinctions. Volkswagen’s market-leading resale value resiliency owes much to the fact that for fans of the brand’s unique mix of attributes, there just isn’t a second choice.

Overall Top 10:
Volkswagen Eos
603E56C7-39D1-47FB-A598-9876FD5B0159.jpgWhile more and more automakers are ditching the traditional soft-top convertible in favor of sophisticated power-retractable hardtop models, the Eos is the only hardtop drop-top that also incorporates a built-in sunroof. Combined with a gorgeous interior, eager handling and room for four, the Eos promises driving enjoyment that will last well after the new-car aroma is gone.

Volkswagen Jetta
kbb_jetta_award.jpgMore substantial than a typical compact sedan but not quite as roomy as a mid-size, the Jetta competes across and between two segments. Volkswagen’s best-selling model by far, the Jetta delivers a distinctively European driving experience but in a more American-friendly sedan shape than its Rabbit hatchback sibling.

Volkswagen Rabbit
kbb_rabbit_award.jpgEven at its modest starting price of about $16,000, the Volkswagen Rabbit delivers an impressive blend of stable cruising, eager handling and impressive interior refinement. It’s also proven to be the most durable hatchback in America, having roamed our shores for more than 30 years (most of those wearing a “Golf” nametag).

Volkswagen Touareg 2, winner of Best of Adventure Gear Award

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. – National Geographic Adventure named the Volkswagen Touareg 2 as a winner of its Best of Adventure Gear Award at yesterday’s Adventurer of the Year Celebration at National Geographic headquarters in Washington, D.C. The Touareg 2 was honored in the Desert category and was praised for its ability to navigate side slopes and its computer-controlled descent feature that doesn’t require the driver to manually brake while the feature is in use.

08Touareg2_V8_20_hrgb.jpg

‘We’re immensely proud that the Touareg 2 has received this accolade from National Geographic Adventure,’ said Clark Campbell, Volkswagen of America Motorsport Manager. ‘Volkswagen’s commitment to making safe and well-engineered vehicles at an affordable operating cost for off road and on road adventurers is reflected in the Touareg 2’s performance. National Geographic Adventure features some of the most extreme travel and sporting events in the world. It’s exciting that the judging panel feels the Touareg 2 will enable their readers to pursue their extreme adventures.’

National Geographic’s Adventurer of the Year Celebration is an annual event that honors those in the world of adventure whose extraordinary achievements have expanded our sense of what is humanly possible, and also salutes the best new products on the market that have made adventure sports safer and more fulfilling. Winners are selected by National Geographic Adventure’s editors and their Retail Advisory Board.

‘The roughest path to the trailhead is in the desert, and no stock vehicle is better engineered for loose and broken tracks than the Volkswagen Touareg 2,’ said Steve Casimiro, National Geographic Adventure’s West Coast Editor.

National Geographic Adventure has established an advisory board of 44 of the leading outdoor retailers in the United States to assist the publication with choosing honorees. The advisory board contributed in two ways: by weighing in on products that in its expert opinion are innovative and by reporting on what products consumers are particularly excited about in the marketplace.
Volkswagen’s Touareg 2 will be honored with the other winners in the December/January issue of National Geographic Adventure, which hits newsstands on Nov. 27. NGA’s 2007 Best of Adventure issue was inspired by the larger-than-life world of adventure lifestyles through two perspectives: a review of the year’s best achievements in exploration, conservation, and humanitarian aid; and equipment that aims to inspire readers to achieve greatness. This issue also features a leading-edge guide to the state of adventure that celebrates the best gear, outdoor sports trends, and incredible acts of 2007.

The Touareg 2 builds on the legacy of the original Touareg, as a stand-out off-road vehicle that delivers the comfort of a luxury sedan and the dynamic driving experience of a sports car. After its introduction in 2003, the Touareg quickly garnered accolades ranging from ‘4×4 of the Year’ to ‘Best SUV.’ Volkswagen continues to demonstrate the off-road prowess of the Touareg 2 and showcase its available diesel technology with its recent success at the Tecate SCORE Baja 500, with more excitement to come at the 2008 Dakar Rally.

The next-generation Touareg 2 promises to offer even more power, safety, comfort, and versatile on- or off-road ability. The new Touareg 2 is instantly recognizable with its new stylized front grille, a redesigned front bumper, new side mirrors with improved airflow, sleek, new organically shaped headlamp housings, LED lighting, a new roof edge spoiler, an upgraded color palate, and all new alloy wheels.”

Volkswagen space up! blue video

Here is the space up! blue design study video. This shows all the details working from the exterior to the interior. At 1:18 you can see the “Samba” roof and the solar panels. Probably one of the best ideas/concepts to hit an auto show in a long time. I often wonder why there is so much energy effort that does not use these natural offerings. Hmmm, car sits during the day, in a hot parking lot with the sun bearing down…

At 3:44, you can see the UI and it’s near copy of Apple like design. Is this Apple’s work showing up?

Governor Schwarzenegger visit’s VW exhibit

This is actually good news for us here in the states! If he is enthusiastic about VW’s offerings especially the engines, then we may see ‘em here in the future. Our savings plan is started, how about yours?

On another note (see pic), Arnold is 6ft 2in and during his bodybuilding days, came in at 235lbs. Seeing him in the space up! shows us that it’s not that small.

Governor Schwarzenegger visit's VW exhibit

Los Angeles, – California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger officially opened the International Los Angeles Auto Show earlier this morning. Touring the show after the press conference, he had the opportunity to sit behind the wheel of the recently unveiled Volkswagen space up! blue concept car. At a length of only 12 feet, it has a surprisingly large amount of room for four passengers and offers a realistic look into the future of zero-emission car travel in the future.
