Porsche’s hot hatch?

I’m not sure about the small hatch for Porsche.. I’m also not to warm about the Panamera design. The smaller version seen below looks better in the form but something is just not right to me.. oh and a front engine? I guess time will tell..

*note: I’m using ecto to post this.. testing the new alpha.

With impending European Union limits on carbon dioxide emissions, makers of high performance vehicles like Porsche have been scrambling to find a way to meet the new requirements (whatever they may be). One obvious way is to make smaller lighter cars, and German magazineAutoZeitungis reporting that Porsche will follow up the introduction of the Panamera sedan with small front-engined hatchback.

It wouldn’t be the first such configuration from Stuttgart, although it seems likely to be smaller than the old 924/944 lineup. The magazine is reporting that the new car will use a flat 6 from the Boxster/Cayman with all-wheel drive on a VW platform. That engine choice would preclude the Golf platform since the boxer engine wouldn’t fit in the transverse engine layout. So if this comes to pass, a variation of the Audi A4 architecture is likely to underpin the new model.

Another more likely option might be to use the Golf platform with a variation of the the R32 drivetrain. This would certainly provide the necessary performance and it wouldn’t be out of line with what Porsche did with the Cayenne. MotorAuthority has a rendering of what such a car might look like, and it’s definitely better than what we’ve seen recently in spy photos of the Panamera. This car would definitely be a lot closer in spirit to what a Porsche should be.

Engine talk with DTM driver Martin Tomczyk

Audi factory driver Martin Tomczyk devoted some time at Zandvoort to junior drivers, giving the contenders of the ADAC Volkswagen Polo Cup an in-depth look behind the scenes of the DTM.

Engine talk with DTM driver Martin Tomczyk

How many engines can you use per season? What does your race weekend look like? How important are the tyres? How many buttons does a DTM steering wheel have? – these and numerous other questions asked by the Polo Cup participants were answered by Martin Tomczyk during an extensive pitlane visit at Zandvoort. In addition, the young racers were given the chance to take a really good look at the DTM-Audi that was presented to them without the bonnet and doors, close enough to touch.

Despite the big differences in technology – the Audi A4 DTM delivering about 470 hp is a pure prototype with a carbon fibre body, while the 150-hp Cup Polo is a touring car based on the production version – the “engine talk” revealed that there are indeed a number of parallels between the professional league and the entry-level series: For example, proper handling of the Dunlop tyres is equally important in the Polo Cup and the DTM and the big stars are required to stick to a precise schedule on race weekends – a lesson the talented youngsters in the Polo Cup learn early on as well.

The Saxony Classic Rallye

Maintaining an established tradition. Volkswagen is taking part in the rallye for the fifth year in succession and is taking some of it’s automotive treasures. For the first time, all the historic Volkswagen vehicles will be in convoy.

Volkswagen Museum

These precious pieces from the ZeitHaus, the Autostadt and the AutoMuseum Wolfsburg foundation are being entered, to be presented to the wider public.

Included are such unique vehicles as the Horch 930V, the 1961 Volkswagen 1500 Type 3 cabriolet prototype, a 1966 luxury version transporter – commonly known as the “Samba bus” – and the 1972 Volkswagen Beetle 1302 “Weltmeister“.

The Saxony Classic Rallye is an historic rallye with the emphasis on sport, where instead of high speed, high precision is called for.

Limited-edition Cayman S as Porsche Design Edition 1

Man this is damn nice! Just perfect! *I don’t think it could get any better. I’ve always been a fan of these and the shape. This is why Porsche is at the top! Black matte would look awesome too!

* Not sure about the text on the stripes yet…

Limited-edition Cayman S as Porsche Design Edition 1

Exclusive all-black special edition

Stuttgart. Dr. Ing. h. c. F. Porsche AG of Stuttgart, Germany, is to expand its mid-engine coupé model range with the launch, in November 2007, of the Cayman S “Porsche Design Edition 1”, a limited-edition special series. Porsche has incorporated various design disciplines into this very special mid-engine coupé: the black exterior emphasizes the purist nature of the 295-bhp sports car and, at the same time, is a nod to Porsche Design and the famous Chronograph 1s designed by Ferdinand Alexander Porsche precisely 35 years previously.

This look, cultivated by Porsche Design, imparts additional luxury and class on the Cayman S: the black leather and Alcantara upholstery harmonizes with refined details such as the instrument dials, the layout of which reflects that of all Porsche Design chronographs. Even the center console, dashboard, and door trims glisten in black, while the three-spoke sports steering wheel, the gear lever, the handbrake grip, and the roof lining are clothed in non-slip black Alcantara. The Porsche logo (crest) is embossed on the headrests.

ALMS: Audi back on front row at Road America

Great news for Audi Motorsport! This definitely shows the strengths and weaknesses of the R10 TDI. Road America is a long 4 hour race and the circuit has some long straights and fast corners. The torque loves this as we know.

Another piece of great news is that Maserati is here and will hopefully give the Corvettes a strong run. I hope they come to Petit Le Mans as well as the Aston’s!

I will have a follow up to this regarding the Flying Lizard’s. As you all know this is one of our favorite teams!

R10 TDI at Road America - Allan McNish

Allan McNish and Audi returned to the head of the American Le Mans Series grid Friday with a record run to pole position for Saturday’s Generac 500 at Road America. The record-setting Scot turned in a lap of 1:47.665 in Audi’s diesel-powered R10 TDI as the German marque won its first overall pole in the Series since the season-opening race at Sebring in March.

McNish broke the mark he set last year at Road America by 1.5 seconds and was 0.371 seconds better than teammate Marco Werner in the sister factory prototype. McNish and Dindo Capello will team in the pole-sitting entry with defending race winner Emanuele Pirro joining Werner.

A completely quick New Beetle

OH SHIZ! This is hot! I wasn’t planning on another New Beetle but shiat this new design is incredible.

Now if your reading, I posted my thoughts on the new designs popping up and that a “Ragster” looking design was next up. Well this is it! Not completely as aggressive, but the line cues are there. From the nose intakes to the “chopped” roof line. I’d love to see how the non-beetle VW fans out there take this. Offer with a strong engine option and make it handle. I’d say this is a bit late but well worth the wait. Right now this is on target for next gen as it retains the original New Beetle aesthetic!

VW is on it!

New_Beetle_2009_cab

At the end of of 2009 starts the second generation of the new Beetle on basis new gulf VI. the beginning makes the Cabrio, the closed version follows one year later.

By George Kacher it runs and runs and runs. Do you remember? Thus VOLKSWAGENrecruited into the 60ern for the tail engine beetle, from which to 2003 21.5 million pieces were produced. But develops in the meantime alsothe 1998 presented new Beetle to the success car: Recently the einmillionste copy was delivered. Reason of enough, in order to begin in time with the development of the successor. Ex Volkswagen boss Wolfgang Bernhard wanted to carry out a minimum program with the car and to use from cost reasons the old gulf platform. Martin winter grain, the new gentleman in the house, sets against it on current technology. Therefore the next new Beetle is based on the platformgulf of the VI, which does not differ however from the predecessor seriously.

Also with the organization of the product program itself the two Top managers would probably have become hardly united. Originally was remembered to place a complete new Beetle family on the wheels. In the closer choice last an optically daring many purpose combination and a four-door sedan were to, at which at least the beetle taxi drivers in Mexico town center would have had their bright joy. Even a Dune Buggy, a jeep and smallPick UP were in the drawers of the designers. The new crew tilted these variants however likewise like the sport combination on trade wind basis and the Crossoverderived from the AUDI A6. Instead it will give that to new Beetle again only as Zweitürer.

Volkswagen at the IAA 2007

THIS IS HUGE! The City Expert debut prototype! Flat-four “Boxster” engine! Plus a total of 8 world premieres! DAMN!

I’m stoked to “see what’s driving tomorrow”. People doubt VW and the future but I will say one thing here, VW is offering or has in it’s back pocket some strong “options”. Granted some are only offered in Europe, but thats business. With the US Dollar where it’s at, who knows. This crap corn ethanol options from our American brands just plain blows!

IAA is a bit away so I’m sure images and more news will develop. Keep your eyes on oneighturbo for all your updates!

Volkswagen Tiguan

Marketing campaign with eight world premieres
SUV: World premiere of an agile Tiguan

Prototype: World premiere of a slick City Expert
BlueMotion: Six new models at a stroke

Wolfsburg, 01 August 2007 - Volkswagen will present its widest product range of all time at the International Automobile Exhibition (IAA) in Frankfurt (13th to 23rdrd September). Europe’s no. 1 will be presenting over fifty models on view in Hall 3.0 – eight of them world premieres. One of the highlights: the Tiguan – an entirely new generation of SUV developed to complement the Touareg. And if all that’s not enough: Volkswagen will respond to the official motto of this year’s IAA – “see what’s driving tomorrow” – with a prototype. The heart of this sensationally flexible City Expert will beat where the flat-four “Boxer” engine once did in the Beetle. When the gates open at the IAA, six new BlueMotion models will also make their debut. From 2008 onward Volkswagen will offer nine vehicles under the BlueMotion label.

Volkswagen will welcome visitors to the IAA in an exposition area of 9,000 square metres. The centrepiece of that will be the Tiguan. It is the world’s first production model exclusively equipped with supercharged engines. It offers two particular advantages: lower fuel consumption and still fun to drive. Also new: the remarkably quiet four-cylinder Diesel engine with common-rail injection. The two new TDIs produce 103 kW/140 PS and 125 kW/170 PS respectively. Both engines already conform to the Euro 5 exhaust standards that will be introduced in 2009. You will be able to “see what’s driving tomorrow” here and now.

Moreover, Volkswagen will unveil six new BlueMotion models at the same time. Therefore, in the course of 2008, there will be at least nine BlueMotion models available. The Volkswagen BlueMotion environmental label will certainly become a byword for effective environmental protection. The versions already available – the Polo BlueMotion (3.8 litres of Diesel consumed per 100 km and 99 g/km CO2) and Passat BlueMotion (5.1 litres of Diesel consumed per 100 km and 136 g/km CO2) – have already redefined the standards of economy in their respective classes.

The Volkswagen press conference will be held on 11th September at 11.00 a.m. in Hall 3.0, on the Volkswagen stand. Dr. Martin Winterkorn will present the new Tiguan there, as well as the prototype of a future compact model.
