6 Hours later..

Audi takes an incredbile win in the 2007 24 Hours of Le Mans. I literally was just about to hit the sack when Dindo went into the wall at the Indianapolis turn.. I was so bummed, pissed and more.. It was more than just a crash. Tom Kristensen lost out on his 8th Le Mans win esp. having come back after the DTM crash. Allen McNish doesn’t get his second win. Dindo Capello doesn’t get his. Audi lost it’s second car out of the race. Audi 1/3.

24 Hours of Le Mans

I really feel bad about Mike Rockenfeller. They were running strong too. Luhr did have an interview and he didn’t sound to happy about Mike’s driving or choice but who knows.. it was very early to be driving so aggressive.

24 Hours of Le Mans

Peogeout came but didn’t really give the Audi’s a run. They were always there but Audi was putting the hurt on early. Even at one point it was an Audi 1-2-3. Peugeout came with two cars and lost one so in the end it was 1 vs. 1. In the end they were +10 laps down.

Big congrats to the Pescarolo Sport team who came in 3rd. The petrol running car was only +1 lap off the diesel Peugeout.

Having children does’t work quite well with a 24 hours race, even with a Tivo. I would love to thank radiolemans.com for bringing the audio feed as it helped so much. Now I have to go back and watch the tivo to catch up.

Here to next years 24 Hours of Le Mans where we should see a stronger Peugeout team, factory Porsche RS Spyders and possibly the Acuras.

Now I just have to wait for Petit Le Mans in October.

FUCK!!!!

The leading #2 Audi with Dindo driving just smacked a wall…….. more in a sec.

Well it looks like it was due to the previous post regarding the rear wheel + nut going on.. that mechanic is hating himself.

Troublesome pitstop for the No. 2 Audi

Jeesh, thinking of going to bed and this scare comes across..

The No.2 Audi Sport North America Audi R10 TDI suffered a troublesome pitstop when the rear wheel was not correctly fitted to the car. The mechanic narrowly avoided getting his hand stuck between the wheel and the bodywork of the car. No damage was done, and nobody was hurt. But a couple of seconds were lost on this car which is currently running 3 laps ahead of its sister No.1 Audi Sport North America Audi R10 TDI.

After exiting the car Allan McNish said, “the Peugeot is very fast in the Porsche curves, and obviously has a good chassis, but we are faster overall”.

The two team Total Peugeot’s are currently running third and fourth behind the two leading Audi’s.

Audi vs. concrete

This is the stuff Le Mans can bring to the table… doesn’t matter what hour!

The team of the No.1 Audi Sport North America Audi R10 TDI Audi discovered a problem indicated by the telemetry data. The problem was caused by a collision with a large chunk of concrete which Dr Wolfgang Ullrich described as, “as big as a fist”. The concrete went under the nose of the Audi and into the suspension, and was removed by the team after the car was brought back to the pit lane and the nose assembly quickly removed. The car rejoined with a new nose assembly, and we will now watch to see whether there will be any long lasting damage.

Bad news: No.80 Flying Lizard is out

Sorry to hear this! I was rooting for a great result and to crush the Ferarri’s! can’t wait to see you at Petit Le Mans!

1:10 am - Unfortunately, we have had to retire the No. 80 Flying Lizard Porsche from the race due to a mechanical driveline failure that we cannot repair.

I’d like to thank all of you for joining us and for all of your support. We are disappointed, but at the same time very proud of what we accomplished so far in our time here at Le Mans.

We will see you all in a few weeks at Lime Rock!! *** Jen, Shane, and the entire Lizard crew **

Flying Lizard Le Mans Hour Eight Update

With eight hours of the 24 Heures du Mans under their belts, the Flying Lizard team is now fifth in GT2 with Johannes van Overbeek currently in the car in his third stint. Just past the six-hour mark, Joerg was in P2, when he radioed in that the passenger door had blown out. He was able to pit quickly for a replacement door, and rejoined the field without losing a position.

A few minutes later, six and a half hours into the race, near the end of Joerg’s double stint, he reported a strong vibration in the rear. Over the next few minutes, he reported increasing difficulty steering the car and called to the crew that there was definitely a problem. Still in P2, he pitted. The problem was immediately apparent: the rear wing had collapsed, making it extremely difficult to control the car.

During the short pit stop, Seth Neiman took the wheel during the driver change for his second stint. The crew sent Seth back out with the collapsed rear wing, needing additional time to prepare for a rear wing change. Under full course yellow for a prototype stopped on course, Seth pitted again and the crew did phase one of the repair – removing the rear wing and sending Seth out again with no wing. He was able to get out ahead of the pace car, and therefore did not lose a position. On the subsequent pit stop, still under yellow, the crew was able to replace the wing and set it. Unfortunately, the No. 80 was unable to make it out before the next pace car, which pushed the car back to sixth position. After Seth’s stint, as of 11:00 pm CET, Johannes is now in the car, in fifth. Sixteen hours to go!

24 Hours of Le Mans: 8th hour

We are one third of the way through the race, and at this stage things are not at all settled in the top of the rankings. Two Audis are still leading, but the Peugeot No.7 and the Pescarolo No.16 are hanging in there close behind. The rain seems to be a distant memory in the race that is now happening in the dark of night. In LM P2, the Team Barazi Epsilon has lost the lead to the No.40 Lola of Quifel - ASM Team, but is valiantly giving chase. There have been no major changes in the GT classes.

No 86 Spyker retires with engine failure

*Sucks. I haven’t posted much on the Spykers. Sorry.

The No.86 Spyker Squadron b.v. Spyker C8 Spyder was officially retired from the race at 22:22 with engine failure. The car completed 70 laps, compared to 113 laps completed by the leading Audi at the time of their withdrawal.

24 Hours of Le Mans: 7th hour

This hour was marked by a crash between the No.63 Corvette and the No.1 Audi, and an exit into the gravel for the No.9 Creation Judd. The 7th hour ended under another safety car period. There is now a two lap difference between the two leading Audis, and two more laps back to the No.7 Peugeot and the No.16 Pescarolo. There has been a lead change in LM P2, where the No.40 Lola moved into the lead over the No.33 Zytek. In LM GT2, the Team LNT who won last year with the Panoz, lost almost all hope to repeat as Champions.
