Audi: New Diesel specific media site

It’s not the “latest 3D” micro site’s we’ve been seeing from Audi but it is super informative. Some great footage of the R10. If you have yet to see this car in action, hit an ALMS race this year! I stress see because you can’t hear it coming or going!

Audi of America, Inc, today announced the launch of its new diesel-specific media website www.audiusdiesel.com. Audi has long been a leader in diesel technology since the debut of the first Turbo Direct Injection (TDI) diesel engine back in 1989. Not long after Audi went undefeated in 2006 with its R10 TDI prototype race car, including the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the first U.S-bound production diesel model was announced; the Audi Q7 3.0 TDI. Having long been pioneers in diesel outside North America, the Audi Public Relations department created a media website to expand upon Audi’s diesel prowess.

New Beetle next gen vs. SEAT Leon Cupra

Yes. The latest images floating around the net have VW peeps wondering wtf they are.. One thing is for sure is that they are not official.

It hit me the other day that these designs reminded me more of a rounded SEAT design. One that could easily become a new New Beetle. BTW, what would we call it then? 10th Anniversary Edition? If it’s a 2008, it would be 70 years since 1938..

I’ll post back once I do my photoshop Frankenstein layer thing with this design and a Leon.. muahahahah ;)

BTW, I said it first. If it does turn out to be true! :P

New Beetle next gen?

Could this be the next look of the New Beetle? Since it’s introduction in 1998, we are now going on a 10yr span with no significant design changes.

Visually it has some interesting lines and the rear has a Porsche Boxster look. The pickup has always been something “beetle” enthusiast have played with since the air-cooled days..

I guess we will see…

First Drives: SEAT Leon Cupra

I really love SEAT’s! I love watching them in the BTCC and WTCC! I would love VW to bring them over to these shores but I’m sure they have their economic reasons. I would love VW to bring over this engine in the GTI. 10hp less than the GTI 30th but 27hp more than the U.S GTI…

SEAT Leon Cupra
Rating:

The Cupra gets an engine upgrade and suspension tweaks to make it the best Leon yet

Hold on to your hats - Seat has unleashed its fastest-ever road car. Not long ago, 200bhp was the benchmark power figure for the hottest hatches.

But what’s really impressive is the way the Cupra puts this power down. Even if you are hard on the throttle in first and second gears, torque steer isn’t an issue, while the car remains superbly composed over undulating roads…

But the thermostat has been turned up by the likes of the 222bhp Ford Focus ST and 237bhp Vauxhall Astra VXR. Now, the Spanish company has decided to enter the fray with its new range-topping Leon Cupra.

Under the bonnet is the same 2.0-litre engine that’s in the new Golf GTI Edition 30, albeit with 237bhp to the VW’s 227bhp. The Leon sprints from 0-62mph in only 6.4 seconds on its way to a top speed of 153mph.

But what’s really impressive is the way the Cupra puts this power down. Even if you are hard on the throttle in first and second gears, torque steer isn’t an issue, while the car remains superbly composed over undulating roads; the damping seems to get better the faster you go. Grip levels are high, roll is kept well in check by the stiff chassis and the steering is direct, if a little lacking in feel.

Yet from looking at the SEAT, you would not expect such performance and agility. Only 18-inch alloy wheels, an oval exhaust and black wing mirror trim separate the Cupra from the Leon FR. Inside, there are high-backed, heavily bolstered sports seats, while the chunky three-spoke steering wheel and centrally located rev counter get Cupra badging. Other than that, it’s standard Leon, which means decent comfort but some cheap plastics.

Still, at £19,595, the newcomer offers a lot of pace for the money. The chassis is excellent and there is a long list of standard equipment to sweeten the deal further. And while the Cupra can’t match the depth of quality offered by the GTI Edition 30, it’s much better than the crashy and sometimes unruly Leon FR.

Wolfgang Josef Egger, Audi Group, Head of Design

Wolfgang Josef Egger (44) will become Audi Group Head of Design on 1 May 2007. Egger will thus be succeeding Walter Maria de’Silva, who took over as Head of Design at the Volkswagen Group on 1 February. “In refilling this position, the company with the four rings is strengthening its independence in matters of design and is thereby confirming the significance of this Audi core competence”, commented Rupert Stadler, Chairman of the Board of Management at AUDI AG.

Egger’s appointment means that the Audi Group design team is again complete. The Audi brand Design department is headed by Stefan Sielaff, who was appointed to this position in March 2006.

Wolfgang Josef Egger began his career in 1989 as a designer at Alfa Romeo. Management roles in design took him to Seat nine years later and to Lancia in 2001. Most recently, Egger was Head of Design at Alfa Romeo.

World Premiere of Passat BlueMotion in Geneva

Low fuel consumption: Passat BlueMotion consumes just 5.1 liters of diesel over 100 km

It just keeps running: Passat BlueMotion with 1,350 km range

Wolfsburg, Germany - The new Passat BlueMotion – no other vehicle of its size consumes less fuel. The saloon needs exactly 5.1 liters of diesel for 100 km. And just as convincing: a CO2 emission level of just 136 g/km. The world premiere of the Passat BlueMotion is 6th March at the Geneva Motor Show.

With the new Passat BlueMotion, Volkswagen is forcing ahead with the launch of vehicles that are particularly efficient and environmentally friendly. The first BlueMotion model was the Polo in the summer of 2006– an immediate success and its production figures have already been increased threefold due to the high demand throughout Europe. “BlueMotion” is now the seal of quality for a model version with the lowest rate of fuel consumption.

With reference to the new Passat BlueMotion this means: an average of 5.1 liters of diesel over 100 kilometers. The Passat Estate BlueMotion needs 5.2 liters (137 g/km) – also a top value, even in comparison to vehicles worldwide. Both body versions have a driving range of up to 1,350 kilometers with a full tank! With an average annual distance driven of 15,000 kilometers, this means that the driver only needs to refuel eleven times a year with an average of 68 Euro* in fuel costs per month.

Volkswagen can achieve such low consumption figures through the fine tuning of the engine, which was already extremely efficient. In this case a 77 kW / 105 bhp TDI engine with a diesel particulate filter fitted as standard. This fuel efficiency does not, however, reduce levels of agility. The Passat BlueMotion can accelerate up to 193 km/h (Estate: 190 km/h) if required. That is an element of the BlueMotion philosophy: fuel efficiency and agility in a combination that still makes driving fun.

VW showcases Clean TDI, biodiesel and hydrogen

I love the sound of this and the options coming in the future. B5 biodiesel would be a great addition.

Volkswagen of America, Inc. is giving a high profile to vehicles with lower environmental impact at the Designing Sustainable Mobility Summit, being held at Art Center College of Design in Southern California. Here, designers and other transportation experts from many countries are sharing ideas on ways to make future mobility more environmentally compatible.

As this vision unfolds, attendees and Art Center students are being provided the unique experience of driving VW models running on biodiesel, ultra low sulfur diesel, hydrogen, and highly efficient gasoline engines on public roads. Driving some of the very technologies and fuels being discussed at the Summit provides the reality check that moving forward in meaningful and more environmentally-conscious ways is much more than theory. It’s happening today, and in ways that address the needs and desires of drivers now and in the years ahead.

“It’s important to demonstrate that raising the bar in such important areas as fuel efficiency and emissions reduction isn’t just accomplished with exotic or future-oriented technologies,” says Ron Cogan, editor and publisher of the Green Car Journal, which is hosting the Summit’s ride-and-drive. “Volkswagen’s demonstration of its clean diesel and twin charger engines provides real-world examples of environmentally positive technologies that are operating on highways today”.

2008 VW R32 micro

not sure if this will be expanded on but shit this sucks!

absolutely no emotion, experience or brand thinking behind this..

the angles on the images are poor and the one in the rear it vertically stretched..

as a forseen (not by vw) competitor to the EVO’s and STi’s out there this direction/micro needs to be pushed a lot harder!

and the tag, limited in number only, is going to kick them in the ass. comes with 250hp which is a ton short of the above rides… dont get me wrong its an incredible car but this time it shoulda have been boosted.
