2007 Audi RS4 - eurotuner Magazine

eurotuner has a nice review on the new RS4 complete with pics and not so great video!

Audi grabs the limelight in the performance car sector with its new 420hp RS4. We spent five days behind the wheel to make sure it was as good as they claim. And it is!

In this job we inevitably get to drive lots of cars, some of which are memorable, others instantly forgettable. You hope that each will leave a lasting impression. It doesn’t happen often but these are the great ones: the future classics. I can remember every M5 I’ve ever driven, every M3, every RS Cosworth and every GTI. And three weeks after driving the new Audi RS4 I can still vividly recall every detail of my five days behind the wheel.

The RS4 is great car. It’s going to set the standard for many years and the next M3 will need to be spectacular to beat it. In fact, the RS4 is so good it’s being compared to the M5 – a car that’s technically in a different league. And yet where the M5 is fast and efficient, the RS4 is raw and engaging. The Audi’s advantage is that it’s old school. Now I know its ridiculous to label a $70k quattro this way, but hear me out. My lasting impression of the 507hp M5 V10 is that everything’s computer-controlled. There are 279 combinations of suspension, gear change speed, throttle speed, active seating and so on. Yet the RS4 is stripped of all this. You get suspension the Audi engineers wanted, a six-speed manual gearbox and you go very fast. And where the M5 has its M button, the RS4 gets an S button on the steering wheel. The M5’s MDrive is fully programmable and in addition to an extra 100hp, it opens the throttles faster and you can play with those 279 parameters. Audi’s button simply alters the throttle response, tightens the seats on you and makes the V8 sing louder.

Audi TT Coupe 3.2 V6 Quattro S-tronic 2dr

What’s new?
Audi has gone all out to ensure that the second-generation TT can mount a credible attack on the prowess of the BMW Z4 Coupe, Mercedes-Benz SLK, Nissan 350Z and Porsche Cayman.

Audi’s primary target was reducing the TT’s weight, and at 1430kg, this new 3.2-litre V6-engined car is 60kg lighter than the car it replaces.

Under the clamshell bonnet of the initial range-topping version lurks Audi’s familiar 3.2-litre V6 engine, complete with direct injection and a high 11.3:1 compression ratio. Mounted transversely but slightly lower and further back in the engine bay than before – both in a bid to improve the overall centre of gravity and to ensure sufficient clearance from the bonnet, in line with the latest pedestrian safety regulations – the compact 24-valve unit kicks out 247bhp at 6300rpm, along with 235lb ft of torque between 2500 and 3000rpm.

The defining feature of the new TT’s driveline is Audi’s updated six-speed S-tronic gearbox (nee DSG). Available as a £1400 option above the standard six-speed manual, the double-clutch unit is perfectly suited to the 3.2-litre V6’s flexible nature. It even manages to improve on the previous DSG’s trick of providing that rare combination of smoothness and speed of gearchange. Continue reading ‘Audi TT Coupe 3.2 V6 Quattro S-tronic 2dr’

VW Eos - Re-discover your senses

Volkswagen UK launches the Eos “Re-discover your senses” website.

A very nice, refreshing design but the buggy flash and overall clunky usability kills it. The video integration is nice but hard to find. When you find out that you can drive the Eos, your taken to a land of odd travel. With the top down, this land is made up of images representing your senses…

VW Eos site

Enjoy. (BTW it’s flash heavy)

Audi R10 makes strong impression

Le Mans, France - The Audi R10 TDI made a strong impression on its first laps on the “Circuit des 24 Heures” at Le Mans. All six Audi factory drivers were enthused about the new diesel sports car at the end of the official test day. Italian Dindo Capello set the second fastest time in 3:32.090 at the wheel of the No. 7 Audi R10 TDI. Marco Werner completed the Le Mans dress rehearsal in the No. 8 sister car in fourth position 3:33.160.

Audi DTMAudi Sport Team Joest entirely concentrated on the new sport-prototype’s fine-tuning for the race on 17/18 June as the test day offers the only possibility to test and collect important data on the 13.65-km Le Mans circuit. Audi was leading the field for almost the entire day. Just shortly before the end of the practice, the Pescarolo team set a fastest time of 3:30.195.

For Audi Sport, more important was the fact that the two new R10 TDI sports cars ran almost trouble-free and completed 162 laps (2,211 km). There were only two unscheduled pit-stops. A repair of the hydraulic system cost Frank Biela, Emanuele Pirro and Werner some time in the morning session, while some shifting problems had to be cured on the R10 TDI of Capello, Tom Kristensen and Allan McNish. Project DLS Lime Beatle

Per Soder shows off his project New Beetle. This thing is amazing and has gone through some serious modifications starting from the pan outward. Per runs bilstereo.just.nu and he says it’s his hobby not his full-time work! Makes me feel like a slacker!

My name is Per Soder, and I live in a small town called Mariestad in Sweden. I’ve been into caraudio since 1990 and have been active on the competing scene since 1995. I have caraudio only as a hobby and I don’t work within the caraudio industry. My real occupation is Production Engineer at Electrolux Home Products. As you perhaps has noticed I’m a proud member of Team DLS Sweden.

Project DSL Lime Beetle started as a 2002 1.8T. The focus is on the audio system but by the end it’s transformed into a show winner.

Eos - First Drive

In Greek mythology Eos was the goddess of Dawn. Apparently Eos had a “fling” with Ares, Aphrodite’s lover and as the story goes Aphrodite (none too pleased with Eos) put a curse on her essentially turning Eos into a nymphomaniac(!). Eos then reportedly “fell in love” with a series of mortals and eventually married the Wind God Astraeus - thus bringing things full circle with Volkswagen historically naming cars after winds like Scirocco and Passat. So if you buy into the mythology, Eos was a bit of an unlucky tramp.

Volkswagen’s Eos also likes a good time, preferably topless which is just fine with us. After the Concept C and the unveiling of the Eos at Frankfurt last year, we were finally able to get our hands on a production version and an opportunity to drive it along the Aegean Sea coastline in Greece. While our drive time was limited to about eight hours, we covered a lot of territory over a wide variety of coastal winding roads and severely potholed city streets and came away overall impressed with the package Volkswagen has put together.

Volkswagen receives European environmental award

EU Commission recognizes Volkswagen’s achievements in pioneering car recycling technology
Wolfsburg/Brussels, 02 June 2006 - The EU Commission has presented Volkswagen with the “European Business Award for the Environment” for an end of life vehicle recycling process characterized by its high environmental compatibility and ability to preserve resources. Volkswagen developed the technology which converts waste back into raw materials in cooperation with SiCon GmbH.

European Commissioner for the Environment Stavros Dimas presented the prize in the “Process Award” category to the Volkswagen Group on Thursday. The award-winning Volkswagen-SiCon process recovers materials from end of life vehicle residue which in the past could not be viably separated. The treated secondary raw materials can then be returned to production processes rather than ending up on landfills or in waste incineration plants.

“The environmentally compatible recycling of end of life vehicles is part of Volkswagen’s commitment to sustainable development. We are an innovation leader in this field, since we recognized early on that end of life vehicles are not tiresome waste, but rather a valuable raw material source, and developed the appropriate products and processes for environmentally compatible recycling at an early stage” said Chairman of the Board of Management of Volkswagen AG, Dr. Bernd Pischetsrieder.

Following treatment in the Volkswagen-SiCon process, hard plastics, rubber, textiles, glass and metal residues replace primary raw materials and thus contribute to protecting natural resources. Apart from the ecological aspect, this process presents an economically attractive alternative for secondary raw material users as raw material prices continue to rise.

The demonstration plant for the Volkswagen-SiCon process is located in Kallo near Antwerp, Belgium, on the site of one of Europe’s most progressive scrap recycling companies Belgian Scrap Terminal N.V. (BST). Further plants based on this process are planned or under construction in seven European countries.
