German Castrol 0W-30

Went on a small hunt today for some of the elusive GC. This is specifically made in Germany and it will state that on the back.

I have been using the Mobil 1 0W-40 and overall have been happy but the 1.8T has been sounding a bit rough. The engine calls for a 5W-30, so I will feel a bit better now. I will also do my first UOA on the M1 0W-40 as soon as my kit comes. It will be premature as my commute is 8m one way.

GC 0W-30Why?

  • GC is a TRUE synthetic. Made from PAO/Esters, not Group III.
  • Produces great UOA results.
  • Engines run quieter and smoother. (OK, that may be an opinion.)
  • At cold temps, the 0w weight correlates to cold cranking viscosity. That means GC will still flow at cold temps. (Which is a good thing!)
  • At operating temps, the 30 weight is actually close to a 40 weight. GC is one of the thickest 30 weight oils around.

Beetles being recalled

Brake lights could cause problems on the 1999-2002 Jetta, 1999-2000 Jetta III and the New Beetle from 1998-2002

The models involved include the Jetta sedan from 1999-2002 model years, Jetta III from 1999-2000 model years and the New Beetle from 1998-2002 model years, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said on its Web site on Friday.

NHTSA said the brake lights could become inoperative, or remain on if installed incorrectly during a previous recall.

Audi RS4 vs. BMW M3 CS

This is a great test drive challenge! Tiff adds his great wit and humor to the RS4. Yes I believe the M3 is a good great car but after last weekend and riding in an RS4 its a BEAST! I could give a shit about drifting these cars, esp. in an AWD but in the 1/4 the RS4 eats the M3 7/7 times!

On the track, the Audi kills it again! Enough said! Ya, ya wait til the ‘08 M3 comes out. Bring it!

Perhaps one of the most popular match-ups among car enthusiasts is the Audi RS4 against the BMW M3. It’s not exactly a fair comparison, because the Audi RS4 is a brand new car and the BMW M3 has been on the market for some time. What’s more, the RS4 costs a lot more than the M3. Still, it’s an obvious comparison and the U.K.’s Fifth Gear couldn’t resist the idea.

VW fuel saving training in Berlin - NABU

Federal Transport Minister Tiefensee is VIP learner driver at VW fuel saving training in Berlin

Volkswagen and Naturschutzbund support economical and environmentally sound driving

Wolfsburg/Berlin, 24 May 2006 - At a Volkswagen fuel saving training session in Berlin on Wednesday, Federal Transport Minister Wolfgang Tiefensee gained first-hand experience of how the correct driving technique can drastically cut fuel consumption. Together with Dr. Michael Kern, Board Member for Sales and Marketing, Volkswagen brand, and Olaf Tschimpke, President of Naturschutz Deutschland (NABU), Tiefensee’s training session took him through the center of Berlin. The aim was to get through the urban traffic using as little fuel as possible.

VW what?Kern said: “We have no control over fuel prices. But we have taken some fundamental corporate strategy decisions at Volkswagen to reduce fuel consumption. In future, each new Volkswagen model will use less fuel than its predecessor. The new Polo BlueMotion marks the launch of an environmental protection brand which we will be expanding to other model ranges.”

Kern emphasized that Volkswagen is closely involved in research into developing concepts to produce second-generation alternative biofuels. These fuels have a significantly better environmental balance than the present alternative fuels. “Nevertheless, a driver’s behavior is also important. Proper accelerating and braking can save up to 30 percent on fuel. Everyone can learn how to do that,” said Dr. Michael Kern, Volkswagen Board Member for Sales and Marketing, after his training session. Continue reading ‘VW fuel saving training in Berlin - NABU’
