TOCA Race Driver 3 peels out at retail

Bah! What crap! I’ve waited how long for this game to be released, only to call around today and find out that they only received the PS2 version. ebgames said they didnt know why and are not sure when to get the XBOX release. Owell off to play the PC demo, which is awesome!

Codemasters’ TOCA Race Driver 3 for the PlayStation 2, Xbox, and PC is ready to burn rubber, as the publisher today announced the game has launched at retail.

Building on the multi-motorsport approach of the series, TOCA Race Driver 3 features more than 80 different cars in total, most of which are officially licensed, such as the German DTM, the British GT, and the Australian V8 Supercars. Notable additions over previous TOCA games include Baja trucks, monster trucks, sprint cars, and Koenig-tuned Ferraris, Lamborghinis, and Porsches. All the cars in the world aren’t worth much without somewhere to race them, so Codemasters also included more than 40 tracks with enough multiple configurations to push the total number of course layouts above the century mark.

PC gamers interested in kicking the tires on the game before committing to a purchase can download the freshly available PC multiplayer demo. The 556MB demo lets 12 players hit the road in Mercedes C-Klasse cars, Renault Cilos, and Dodge Chargers.

TOCA Race Driver 3 is rated E10+ for Everyone 10 and Older and retails for $29.99 on the PC and $39.99 on the PS2 and Xbox. Check back soon for GameSpot’s full review.

VEGETABLE OIL powered rental cars
Debut in Los Angeles

Los Angeles, California – Bio-Beetle, Inc., a Maui, Hawaii based corporation, announces the debut of 100% biodiesel rental cars to California, beginning with their new office in Los Angeles. Bio-Beetle Eco Rental Cars is introducing diesel vehicles that will be powered solely by biodiesel, a diesel fuel made from vegetable oils. Bio-Beetle is the first and only rental car company in the world to offer rental cars fueled exclusively with biodiesel.

Bio-Beetle made its original debut on the Hawaiian island of Maui in January of 2003.

“Our goal is a sustainable society, and Bio-Beetle is a step in that direction, giving visitors and LA residents a renewable energy option when renting a car,” said Shaun Stenshol, Founder/President. “Or, as our slogan says, ‘Give the planet a vacation the next time you take one.’”

“Besides the obvious less polluting benefits Bio-Beetle Eco Rental Cars offer, the renter is saying that they would rather support American farmers than the oil industry and the wars that are fought for that oil, plus they are doing something pro active to help prevent things like drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and being part of oil spills like Exxon Valdez,” said Pamela Miedtke-Wolf, co-owner of Bio-Beetle.

Bio-Beetles are unmodified diesel Volkswagen Beetles, Jettas, and Passats. The weekly rental rates in Los Angeles will start at $199.

Biodiesel production in the U.S. was 75 million gallons in 2005. That’s up from 25 million gallons in 2004. Biodiesel is non-toxic in pure form (B100), biodegradable and significantly cuts emissions.

More information about Bio-Beetle can be found online at: http://www.bio-beetle.com. Please visit http://www.biodiesel.org for more information on biodiesel.

Ron Patrick’s Street-Legal Jet Powered VW Beetle

Ron , commented on my other post about his NB. At that time it was just a find on the internet with no word on who, whay, where…

Well Ron has put up his site with photos and text. He has a full write up on it with very nice shots of the NB and hte engine. I’m amazed at the fabrication and minus the obvious “engine”, the body remains OEM.

This is a my street-legal jet car on full afterburner. The car has two engines: the production gasoline engine in the front driving the front wheels and the jet engine in the back. The idea is that you drive around legally on the gasoline engine and when you want to have some fun, you spin up the jet and get on the burner (you can start the jet while driving along on the gasoline engine). The car was built because I wanted the wildest street-legal ride possible. With this project, I was able to use my engineering skills (I have a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University) to design the car without the distraction of how other people have done it in the past - because no one has. I don’t know how fast the car will go and probably never will. The car was built to thrill me, not kill me. That doesn’t stop me from the occasional blast on the highway though.

The engine is a General Electric Model T58-8F. This is a helicopter turboshaft engine that was converted to a jet with a custom tailpipe. The engine spins up to 26,000 RPM (idle is 13,000 RPM), draws air at 11,000 CFM, and is rated at 1350 hp.
