2006 New Beetle

post-2-1116865778

Images are flying around on the net regarding the new design of the 2006 NB. Personally I am 50/50 on it. It does appear a bit more aggressive but just like the MKIV > MKV I feel there needed to be a middle ground. The surface visual of the last design was more graceful. It now has edges (BMW Bangle) that create an extra visual line and shadow. This then brings out the flat surface. I do like the new signals but they feel better on the TT. Maybe a slimmer shape to the current ones. They are introducing hard lines to an organic form. To me this creates unwanted tension. If I look at the cropped shots, they are nice. Once we pull back and see the remainder of the NB, IMO something isn’t right.

With the shot of the NB still in the trailer, I must say the flat face catching the light provides a very large surface w/ no break. I do love the idea of the plate hole under rather than over. This way leaves etc. will be less likely to lodge there behind. A PITA to clean!

here’s more things but they are just design cues so… I will be sticking to my 00′ 1.8T until I get either a Eurovan or Audi.
