Volkswagen expects 30% of 2010 Golf U.S. buyers to pick diesel model - eGMCarTech

Volkswagen is expecting the diesel Golf TDI to account for up to 30 percent of U.S. sales when the six-generation model goes on sale later this fall. According to Stefan Jacoby, CEO of Volkswagen Group of America, the forecast is based on demand for the 50-state clean diesel Jetta.

Jacoby told Automotive News that about 50 percent of Jetta wagon sales and 30 percent of Jetta sedan sales are diesels. He said that the German automaker expected 20 percent is working on bringing more Jetta diesels to meet demand.

At the 2009 New York Auto Show, the 2010 Volkswagen Golf made its debut in a TDI model, which is powered by a 2.0L diesel engine with output of 108-hp or 138-hp.
